Welcome in Flanders!

Thursday 17 September 2020

In 2021, the battle for the rainbow jersey will descend on the heart of Europe, in the land of beer and chocolate, the region that lives and breathes cycling and where art cities will be transformed into the epicentres of a gigantic cycling festival. Welcome in Flanders!

Every year, the Flemish cycling season reaches its annual peak in spring, but in 2021 this will be followed by an extra big cycling party in the autumn with the 2021 UCI Road World Championships Flanders, Belgium. The peloton will descend on the cycling region par excellence for the 100th anniversary of the UCI Road World Championships between 18 and 26 September.

Flanders Classics and Golazo, under the header of vzw Flanders 2021, are joining forces to organise the event. Both can fall back on many years’ experience as organisers of the most important Flemish and Belgian cycling competitions, including the Ronde van Flanders, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Ronde van België and the BinckBank Tour. Furthermore, the Flemish Government is throwing its support behind this unique event and the organisation can also rely on the cooperation of EventFlanders, part of Visitflanders and set up in 2016 for the purpose of supporting events of a similar magnitude.

There are no fewer than 11 rainbow jerseys up for grabs for the riders and teams participating. The battle for the world titles will be spread over different locations in Flanders. The course for the time trials will be mapped out between Knokke-Heist and Bruges. The road races will take place between Antwerp and Louvain. The four host cities are also already looking forward to that one week in 2021 with great enthusiasm.
